In the field of law, Brian S. Akers isn’t just another lawyer. His path to becoming a civil litigation and insurance law attorney is rich with diverse experiences, setting him apart from traditional legal practitioners.
Brian’s educational foundation began with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he earned the esteemed Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue a Master of Arts in Sociology at East Carolina University, where he was inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Honor Society for Sociology. Eventually, he earned his Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2019.
But Brian’s story doesn’t start or end in academia. Before going to college and law school, he served his country in the United States Army. Rising through the ranks to Staff Sergeant in just over four years, Brian’s military service included deployments for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His time in the infantry taught him invaluable lessons in leadership and resilience, which he carries into every aspect of his life and career.
Beyond the battlefield, Brian found fulfillment in coaching soccer. His passion for the sport led him to coach at various levels, from high school to NCAA Division I programs. He was honored as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Assistant Coach of the Year and the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region High School Assistant Coach of the Year in 2010. Coaching wasn’t just about victories on the field for Brian; it was about nurturing young talents and instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.
Transitioning from the soccer pitch to the courtroom, Brian’s legal journey has been marked by dedication and excellence. He’s litigated admiralty & maritime insurance defense cases, negotiated contracts and agreements, counseled homeowner’s associations, and advised small business owners. His commitment to his clients is unwavering, driven by a deep understanding of their needs and a determination to find the best legal solutions.
Outside of his legal practice, Brian finds solace in his love for hockey and soccer, passionately supporting his favorite teams, the St. Louis Blues and Manchester United. His ties to St. Louis run deep, as it’s not just a city but a repository of cherished memories from his childhood. Brian’s personal and professional experiences have shaped him into a multifaceted individual, capable of empathizing with clients from all walks of life and providing them with the dedicated representation they deserve.
