Jonathan Martin

Jonathan W. Martin

Special Counsel

Jonathan Martin came to law by way of a stage. As the lead in a high school production of Peter Pan, he discovered the power of performance and persuasion. Long after his final bow, he understood exactly what a local attorney meant when he told him that attorneys are “frustrated actors” and that every courtroom is a stage. That early instinct for analytical thinking and advocacy has since grown into a focused litigation practice defending insurers, retailers, and businesses in civil, products liability, construction, and trucking matters.

Jonathan approaches every case the way he might approach a mystery: turning over the evidence, locating witnesses, and uncovering the nuanced details that shape the outcome. He is drawn to the fact-finding dimensions of litigation, treating each matter as its own puzzle with no predetermined solution. That mindset fits naturally into the defense work he does for insurance companies and commercial retailers, where cases range from construction defects and product liability claims to trucking accidents and civil disputes. He is admitted in federal court across all three districts of North Carolina, and his appellate background gives him perspective that runs from initial investigation through potential appeal.

Jonathan earned both his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from Campbell University, graduating cum laude from the School of Law. He served as Chief Publications Editor of the Campbell Law Review and as Attorney General of the Campbell Honor Court, and received Book Awards in Constitutional Law II, Antitrust, and Pretrial Litigation. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Tenth Judicial District Bar, and the Wake County Bar Association.

Away from the office, Jonathan enjoys time with his wife, their toddler son, and two dogs; exploring parks around Raleigh; catching sporting events; and working their way through the Raleigh and Durham restaurant scene. He is an avid cook with a particular passion for smoked meats and chili, and treats the Super Bowl as an annual occasion to debut a new recipe. A devoted Liverpool fan and soccer enthusiast, he collects jerseys from clubs around the world. His reading list tends toward Steinbeck, Hemingway, and Larry McMurtry, and his family tries to make it to Puerto Rico, his wife’s native island, as often as possible.
