Tom has built his entire career at Hedrick Gardner, where he serves as a partner in the Charlotte office. His diverse client base spans from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies across industries including healthcare, hospitality, trucking, nursing homes, manufacturing, and construction.
Cost control is a cornerstone of Tom’s practice. Through meticulous investigation, he efficiently identifies key case details and provides clients with comprehensive legal research and strategic advice to establish optimal leverage in each matter.
Beyond cost management, the foundation of Tom’s career rests on building lasting relationships. He takes pride in the trust his clients place in him and genuinely enjoys connecting with people from all backgrounds while providing skilled advocacy and counsel.
Drawing from decades of experience with the North Carolina Industrial Commission, plaintiff’s attorneys, and medical experts, Tom serves as a strategic guide for his clients. He frequently references precedent from prior Industrial Commission decisions to help navigate clients toward the most favorable outcomes.
A Kentucky native, Tom earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky and his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville. He joined Hedrick Gardner’s Wilmington office in 1990 before relocating to Charlotte in 1995.
Tom maintains active membership in the North Carolina State Bar and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. As a former board member of the NCBA’s Workers’ Compensation Section, he served as a key liaison between the North Carolina Industrial Commission and the legal community.
Throughout his career, Tom has mentored numerous attorneys, including several who have become his fellow partners. He finds fulfillment in helping colleagues develop their practices while contributing to the firm’s sustained success.
Tom and his wife Dana are proud parents to three adult children. Dana actively supports a Charlotte animal rescue organization, and together they care for their own rescue dog. Tom enjoys boating, fishing, and spending quality time with family at the lake.
