Adaora L. H. Oguno

Attorney at Law

Before Adaora Oguno ever stood before a judge, she stood on stage as a Fisk University Jubilee Singer, where she learned that a commanding performance is built on preparation and discipline. She brings that same approach to her workers’ compensation practice at Hedrick Gardner, drawing on nearly three years as a prosecutor in North Carolina and New York to guide employers and insurers through every stage of a claim.

As an Assistant District Attorney with the Office of the Bronx District Attorney in New York City, Adaora gained invaluable experience in litigation, courtroom advocacy, legal research, and strategic problem-solving while managing a high-volume docket from initial assessment through disposition. She investigated cases by interviewing witnesses and police officers and reviewing reports and records, drafted motions and legal memoranda, presented cases before grand juries, argued at evidentiary hearings and pre-trial proceedings, and conducted direct and cross-examinations. Her time in the office’s Civil Litigation Bureau added experience with discovery, records review and disclosure, and working alongside municipal agencies to assess litigation risk. That foundation serves her clients well in workers’ compensation matters, where early investigation, careful documentation, and a clear read on risk shape the strategy of every case.

She began her career with the Durham County District Attorney’s Office and, during law school, served as a General Counsel Intern with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, where she researched multi-state regulations and analyzed disclosure obligations for medical and public records requests. She earned her J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she was named to the Dean’s List, served as 3L Class Representative for the Student Bar Association, and was Treasurer of the Moot Court program. She also earned a Master of Information Science, summa cum laude, from North Carolina Central University, giving her a strong grounding in managing the records and documentation at the heart of every claim.

Outside the office, Adaora enjoys working out, hiking, and spending time outdoors, and her adventurous streak keeps her exploring new cities and trying new activities. Her favorite destination is Morocco, though she welcomes any chance to travel internationally and experience new places, people, and cultures.
