Brooks Miller was destined to become an attorney. With both parents practicing law and critiquing each other’s arguments at the dinner table, she developed both a passion for debate and a clear career path, one that led her to follow her father into personal injury defense work, where he practiced for 40 years.
Her foundation in legal discourse serves her well as she defends individuals sued following car accidents and slip-and-fall incidents. The bulk of her work involves representing clients in their first lawsuit, and Brooks finds deep satisfaction in serving as both counselor and advocate, guiding them through the process, answering their questions, and helping calm their anxieties. While she enjoys going to trial when necessary, she takes equal pride in bringing cases to resolution without trial.
Before joining Hedrick Gardner, Brooks worked at her father’s firm for four and a half years, gaining valuable experience in the same practice area. Her legal education at UNC was marked by significant achievements: she completed over 75 hours of pro bono work and earned membership in the Order of Barristers for her work on the Holderness Moot Court.
Brooks demonstrated her ability to work under pressure even before her career began. She took the July 2012 bar exam, which became infamous for a storm-related power outage on the first day. Undeterred, she completed her essays that afternoon in the dark with a dying laptop battery, a testament to the resilience that now serves her clients well.
A native Charlottean who has lived her entire life in North Carolina except for two summers in college, Brooks enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two sons, and dog. A devoted Tar Heel athletics fan, she was a freshman at UNC when the basketball team won the 2005 National Championship.
